I just finished with a 700 mile backpacking trip, and I rode with this helmet the full trip. I added the heated shield to mine (I would recommend the heated shield no matter what, it is well worth the extra cost). There were no worries about breaking the cords, as if I forgot about them the disconnected easily. The helmet was very warm and worked excellent. Most of the trip the temp was in the teens or below, so I kept the vents closed. However we did have a few hours of sun when it warmed up and the massive ventilation worked excellent to keep me cool.

I also want to say that I have always ridden before with an open face helmet and goggles, however once I went with the heated sheild, I don't think I would go back unless it was a short ride or some spirited powder riding.
